Sometimes Goodbye is a Second Chance

These lyrics really struck me tonight. After all that I've been through for the last 4 decades, I have said goodbye to both parents, and I have my second chance.

Shinedown - Second Chance lyrics

Tell my mother, tell my father
I’ve done the best I can
To make them realize
This is my life
I hope they understand
I’m not angry, I’m just saying
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance

Please don’t cry one tear for me
I’m not afraid of what I have to say
This is my one and only voice
So listen close, it’s only for today

I wasn't angry when I NC'd. That had long since passed. I felt sadness, but not the deep, acute sadness I felt when for example, my DH died. IMO, CB Parents are not likely to accept an AC's decision to walk away. When it's the CB PARENT'S decision, that's a whole different ballgame. You're being punished. They view your decision to NC as punishment also, when in fact, it's not: It's self-preservation. *Who* terminates the relationship is a huge variable in terms of outcomes in my very unscientific observation.
And sometimes going back gives them another bullet in case the first couple missed you somehow, but it may also help solidify the AC's decision to permanently sever ties. (OUCH!)
    It takes what it takes.
